Easter Egg Hunt

Last Saturday we went to the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Berrien Springs. They do a good job every year with lots of eggs, and prizes for everyone. Every year it seems that more people hear about it and there are more and more kids. It's organized very well, with the kids going in age groups and a designated place to sign in and turn in the eggs. This was the first year the weater was decent. Not pouring down rain or freezing cold.

Syd and Hayden were in the same age group this year. This is only the 8-9 year olds!

Syd has a white t shirt with purple sleeves, standing next to Hayden in a black tshirt closer to the right side of the picture.

The eggs are just thrown on the ground, so it's more of a scramble than an actual hunt.

They're off! (Getting pics of one specific kid in the sea of kids was not easy.)

Syd is actually right behind the girl in the jeans in this picture. My phone wasn't fast enough to keep with her running and scooping eggs.

There she is right by the tree. We told them the game plan was to run all the way to the back of the egg area and get those eggs while everyone else was still getting the ones in the front.

In less than 2 minutes all the eggs were picked up and it was time to get them counted and see what prize they got.

Syd got a bag of candy and some Uno cards. She was very pleased with both :)

And this is how you take a picture of two people in the same picture :)

Spring Break

We had a recommendation from a friend for a great place to go for spring break. It was the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, Michigan -- about 3 hours north of us. We went for the indoor water park, which was awesome, but there were other great things about it too. Syd's friend Hollee went with us and it was so nice to have a backup kid so we didn't have to be the constant entertainment. This was the first time they were really old enough to be left unsupervised for periods of time as well.

Ken and I had a lot of relaxing time by the pool while the girls played.

Playing in the fountains

I think their favorite thing was this floating snake. They spent more time here than anywhere else.

The Lodge theme is carried thruout the entire resort. This big wolf is right by the check in desk.

At the hotel restaurant the "toy" that came with kids meals were wolf ears. We ate there twice, and ended up with 4 pairs of ears. Another cool thing the girls loved was the MagiQuest adventure. We bought them magic wands, and they had to go all around the hotel looking for different objects that "worked" with the wands to get points and unlock different parts of the quest. It kept them occupied for a good chunk of the time.

Traverse City was kind of like St. Joe in that you could see Traverse Bay from the road. It was a pretty drive to get to The Red Mesa Grill for dinner. Our friend also recommended Red Mesa, and we're so glad we went. It was awesome food and great service. If we're ever up that way again we'll definitely go there.

Hundreds of bottles of hot sauce at Red Mesa.

A Walk in the Woods

I'm slow post these, but I really have been thinking about doing it ever since we took them. One of the last snowy days we had, we went for a walk in the woods at Grand Mere. It wasn't freezing and the wind was calm, so it was very enjoyable. Storm especially is so happy to be out and about and loves being somewhere different. Syd was even tough enough to climb one of the big hills to see Ken's favorite spot.

Serious faces at the top of the climb

Now we can smile and be happy

Storm even gets to explore off the leash

Walking along

Ken even let Storm come in his truck, which doesn't happen very often.
