Halloween

Our neighbors invited us to a Halloween party at their house. Ken found our Zombie Prom King and Queen costumes online, and Syd had picked out her Monster Girl costume from a catalog weeks ago.

There were a few activities for the kids. Syd had to try the donut duel with her friend Lanie.

So You Think You Can Dance the Tour

We bought our tickets for SYTYCD way back in August. I've been watching the show faithfully for the last 4 years, and this was the first tour we were able to make it to. Season 5 didn't have my all time favorite dancers, but they were fun to watch on the show and their performances were good too. They did have some of the most powerful and emotional dances I've ever seen. (As well as some fun ones too).

The show was at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where the Pacers play. It was a great venue for a show like that -- very much like our Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Neither Ken nor I had been to downtown Indy before, and we were pleasantly surprised by it's cleanliness and the feel of it. It wasn't scary like some other big city downtown areas we've been in before. Our hotel was 2 blocks from the arena, so we didn't have to worry about parking or getting there 2 hours early.

I had no idea what to expect from the show. I knew they would do some of the favorite dances from the show, and that was about all I was expecting. The dancers themselves took turns introducing the upcoming dances. You could tell their lines were scripted and memorized, but some of them did have some good comedic timing. It was fun to see their personalities come out in a form other than dancing.

Usually the top 10 dancers are the ones to go on tour, but this time they invited two additional dancers -- not as backups, but to be part of the show. One of my favorite dancers from this season was Phillip. He was the guy they invited to be on the tour, even though he went home before the top 10. His dancing is so crazy good. I was so happy he was invited to be part of the tour. Each dancer got to do a short solo, and he got twice as long to perform, and twice the amount of applause that any other dancer got. The video is of his audition for the show. Phillip had one of the most memorable dances from season 5. But memorable isn't always a good thing. He and his partner were assigned a Russian folk dance that wasn't good. It was danced well, but the style, costumes and choreography just wasn't very fun to watch. All through the live show they kept poking fun of the Russian folk dance, and in the end all of the dancers did a much better version than the one Phillip had to do on the show. It was fun to see something that everyone remembered being transformed into something people will still remember for the right reasons.

I think this is as close as I will ever come to my favorite girl in the world -- Cat Deeley -- the host of the show. I would definitely trade teams for her :)

We had really good seats. Close enough to see everything and no views obstructed by someone's big head.

Showing off my souvenier shirt and room service breakfast too.

I'm very glad we went to the show. I would definitely go again. Every season would be completely different -- different dancers, and different stories portrayed thru dance. This is still defintely my favorite show in the world.

Help Needed

My cousin Nikki has a photo in a contest to win a scholarship. The winner is determined by the number of votes her picture receives. Please, please, please vote for her picture, and pass along the link to anyone you know. You can also post the page straight to your facebook or blog page.

Who doesn't need a little help in the scholarship department?
